Who Is Jesus To You?  My Friend Jesus #18 John 7:1-18

Wise teacher, prophet, miracle worker or Son of God.

Jesus is Lord.  We worship our Lord.

so that I may know Him [experientially, becoming more thoroughly acquainted with Him, understanding the remarkable wonders of His Person more completely] and [in that same way experience] the power of His resurrection [which overflows and is active in believers] Phil 3:10 Amp

God’s ways are not our ways

After this, Jesus traveled around Galilee. He wanted to stay out of Judea, where the Jewish leaders were plotting his death. But soon it was time for the Jewish Festival of Shelters, and Jesus’ brothers said to him, “Leave here and go to Judea, where your followers can see your miracles! You can’t become famous if you hide like this! If you can do such wonderful things, show yourself to the world!” For even his brothers didn’t believe in him. John 7:1-5

It is natural for people to care about people more than God.

Worship in the Spirit and give glory to God.

You can know of Jesus but not really know or believe in Jesus.

Jesus’ brothers did not believe till the resurrection

Jesus’ news is bad news till the Spirit explains the Good News.

The world can’t hate you, but it does hate me because I accuse it of doing evil. John 7:7

6Jsus replied, “Now is not the right time for me to go, but you can go anytime. …   8 You go on. I’m not going to this festival, because my time has not yet come.” After saying these things, Jesus remained in Galilee.  John 7:6,8-9

God’s time is the right time.  God’s time is the full time.

But when the right time (fully) came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children  Gal 4:4-5 NLT (NIV)

But after his brothers left for the festival, Jesus also went, though secretly, staying out of public view.  John 7:10

The message from Jesus is not what we expect.

Then, midway through the festival, Jesus went up to the Temple and began to teach. 15 The people were surprised when they heard him. “How does he know so much when he hasn’t been trained?” they asked. John 7:14-15

Jesus is representing God.  Jesus’ way is God’s way.

So Jesus told them, “My message is not my own; it comes from God who sent me. 17 Anyone who wants to do the will of God will know whether my teaching is from God or is merely my own. 18 Those who speak for themselves want glory only for themselves, but a person who seeks to honor the one who sent him speaks truth, not lies.  John 7:16-18

Communion is a reminder of the Good News (Gospel) of Jesus

As they were eating, Jesus took some bread and blessed it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “Take this and eat it, for this is my body.”

27 And he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. He gave it to them and said, “Each of you drink from it, 28 for this is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people. It is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many. 29 Mark my words—I will not drink wine again until the day I drink it new with you in my Father’s Kingdom.”
