The Painful Thoughts of Failure

Series: How to Raise Your Self-Worth #2

At LCC we exist to lead people to love God, love people, and change the world through Jesus Christ.

We are born needing love and a purpose.

Painful Thought:  I must meet certain standards in order to feel good about myself.

  • Perfectionism
  • Risk avoidance
  • Anger
  • Pride
  • Depression
  • Addiction to success

Replacing Painful Thoughts With Truth

  • You will fail many

Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way. James 3:2

  • Success is getting back up.

The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again. But one disaster is enough to overthrow the wicked. Pro 24:16

  • Failure is a reminder to trust

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Rom 8:28

  • Keep fighting the good

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. 2 Tim 4:7

  • Stop comparing yourself to others. Do your best

Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. Gal 6:4

  • Base your self-worth on God’s view of you.

Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where westand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory. Rom 5:1-2
