In my early twenties, I was coaching a fifth-grade boys football team. I had a boy on my team who was small but athletic and his dad wanted him to be QB. I had a kid that was better and started the better kid in the opening game of the season.

The dad got so mad he came over to the sideline to chew me out in the middle of the game. He told me his son, the small fifth grader, was working toward a college scholarship. He was so angry, one of the other coaches came over and escorted the dad off the sideline.

We want what is best for our kids. We want to see them shine. But what if they fail? What if they don’t get the scholarship? What if they are average? Aren’t most people average?

The most important thing we have to give our kids is hope. The natural way we see hope is just wishful thinking. No matter how hard you try you really have no control of the outcome.

The biblical definition of hope is “confident expectation.” Hope is a firm assurance regarding things that are unclear and unknown. There is only one place, or source for a confident expectation. It’s the grace of God through Jesus Christ.

If you really want your kids to be successful. You give them hope. You give them A spiritual foundation that will equip them to handle everything life throws at them.

How? By living it out. By going to the source yourself and living out a hopeful spiritually successful life in front of your kids.

5 And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. 6 And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. 7 Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. 8 Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. 9 Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. Deut 6:5-9

Dear Heavenly Father, Today I pray for parents. I pray for parents to live a hope of confident expectation and teach their children to love you with all of their hearts so they can have the same hope. I pray we commit wholeheartedly to following your will every day. I pray for your church and for parents to teach their children to make you the foundation of life. I pray we encourage one another to live for you and for children at the earliest possible age to give their lives to Jesus. In Jesus Name Amen and Amen
