My Friend Jesus #10 John 4:16-26

All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. John 3:20

God shows us who we are, so we know we need him.

But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. 23 For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. 24 You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like.  James 1:22-24

But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.  James 1:25

God knows what is best for us.  He created us.

He wants to bless us with being our best.

“Go and get your husband,” Jesus told her.  John 4:16

We try to fill the God-Sized void with things of this world.

“I don’t have a husband,” the woman replied.

Jesus said, “You’re right! You don’t have a husband— 18 for you have had five husbands, and you aren’t even married to the man you’re living with now. You certainly spoke the truth!”  John 4:17-18

She knows her choices are not right choices.

“Sir,” the woman said, “you must be a prophet. John 4:19

It’s hard to face the truth.  You get used to the discomfort. (Denial)

So tell me, why is it that you Jews insist that Jerusalem is the only place of worship, while we Samaritans claim it is here at Mount Gerizim, where our ancestors worshiped?”  John  4:20

Jesus convicts us without condemning us.

Jesus replied, “Believe me, dear woman, the time is coming when it will no longer matter whether you worship the Father on this mountain or in Jerusalem.  John 4:21

Jesus speaks the good news of new and eternal life changing salvation.

You Samaritans know very little about the one you worship, while we Jews know all about him, for salvation comes through the Jews. 23 But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. 24 For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.” John 4:22-24

Grow the love change the world.

The woman said, “I know the Messiah is coming—the one who is called Christ. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”

26 Then Jesus told her, “I am the Messiah!”  John 4:25-26
