We spend our lives knowing we need or are missing something.  We don’t realize it’s God.

Born Thirsty

My Friend Jesus #9 John 4:1-15

I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him? Ps 42:2

Every person is born with a ______________ that can’t be quenched with things of this world. (God-sized void)

The Father loves his Son and has put everything into his hands. John 3:35

So he left Judea and returned to Galilee.

He had to go through Samaria on the way. John 4:3-4

Jesus’ decisions were ___________ based and according to the will of His Father.

I do nothing on my own but say only what the Father taught me. 29 And the one who sent me is with me—he has not deserted me. For I always do what pleases him.” John 8:28-29

Jesus modeled loving God and loving ________ people.

Eventually he came to the Samaritan village of Sychar, near the field that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was there; and Jesus, tired from the long walk, sat wearily beside the well about noontime. John 4:5-6

Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, “Please give me a drink.” He was alone at the time because his disciples had gone into the village to buy some food.  John 4:7-8

Jesus ______________ purposeful relationships.

God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:17

Jesus _________________ the world by loving God and loving people.

The woman was surprised, for Jews refuse to have anything to do with Samaritans. She said to Jesus, “You are a Jew, and I am a Samaritan woman. Why are you asking me for a drink?”  John 4:9

Jesus replied, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.”  John 4:10

The pre-believer does not understand __________ thirst.

“But sir, you don’t have a rope or a bucket,” she said, “and this well is very deep. Where would you get this living water? 12 And besides, do you think you’re greater than our ancestor Jacob, who gave us this well? How can you offer better water than he and his sons and his animals enjoyed?”  John 4:11-12

Holy Spirit __________________ and points to Jesus.

“But I will send you the Advocate—the Spirit of truth. He will come to you from the Father and will testify all about me. John 15:26

Jesus replied, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. 14 But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”

15 “Please, sir,” the woman said, “give me this water! Then I’ll never be thirsty again, and I won’t have to come here to get water.” John 4:13-15


Spiritual Understanding Of Living Water From Jesus

  • It’s a gift from God. Vs 10
  • It’s a living life changing water. Vs 10
  • It satisfies the thirst the world cannot. Vs 14
  • It generates life from within. Vs 14
  • It keeps you alive forever in the presence of God.
