You know that when it comes to men and women and being attracted to each other, opposites attract.  It’s not just about personalities.

Video five of five on what men and women want or need in a marriage.

Men and women want unconditional love, intimacy, they want their spouses to be attractive, and they want security.  But for each want or need, the opposite sex experiences those needs being met in different ways.

Researcher and author Shaunti Feldhaun conducted surveys of 1,304 people (652 married couples). All respondents were anonymous and the spouses never saw each other’s answers so everyone could be completely candid

Of the people they found who described their marriages as highly happy, one of the main reasons they gave was that they looked to God for their happiness and not each other.  They worshipped, prayed, served at church together.

We know what the Bible tells us the most important two things for us to do to really be spiritually successful at anything is to love God and love people.

And when we do, we can really love others because God will meet our need to be loved.

I call it the love checklist in 1 Cor 13:4-7

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

Now… If your spouse is not where you are spiritually, you will not get him or her there by arguing, nagging, begging, or making him or her listen to or read something.  You have to be love.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you so much for your sacrificial love.  Thank you for meeting our needs to feel loved and secure so we can love others in the same way.  Thank you for sending Jesus to love us in the most sacrificial way ever.

Lord, I pray for our marriages.  I pray for those watching who are struggling with their marriage.  I pray for those watching who will be married one day.  And I pray that as believers, we can love our spouses unconditionally even if we are not feeling loved by them right now.  May all marriages be the best because we put Jesus in the middle.

In Jesus Name Amen and Amen.
