Jesus Shows His Glory  My Friend Jesus #5 – John 2:1-12

So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness.  And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son. John 1:14

Jesus is God.  We have seen His glory.

His glory demonstrates his power.

I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power 20 that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. Eph 1:19-20

Jesus puts His power into our lives.

  • Jesus was social.  He went to the people.

The next day there was a wedding celebration in the village of Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the celebration. John 2:1-2

  • Jesus receives his orders from the Father.

The wine supply ran out during the festivities, so Jesus’ mother told him, “They have no more wine.”

“Dear woman, that’s not our problem,” Jesus replied. “My time has not yet come.”  John 2:3-5

“Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. John 5:19

  • Jesus shows his glory when we obey.

But his mother told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

Standing nearby were six stone water jars, used for Jewish ceremonial washing. Each could hold twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus told the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” When the jars had been filled, he said, “Now dip some out, and take it to the master of ceremonies.” So the servants followed his instructions.  John 2:5-8

  • Jesus foreshadowed the once and for all cleansing of the redeemed.
  • God provides better than we think.

When the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had come from (though, of course, the servants knew), he called the bridegroom over. 10 “A host always serves the best wine first,” he said. “Then, when everyone has had a lot to drink, he brings out the less expensive wine. But you have kept the best until now!”  John 2:9-10

By showing His glory God encourages our belief.  He reminds us he is there and active in our lives.

This miraculous sign at Cana in Galilee was the first time Jesus revealed his glory. And his disciples believed in him.  John 2:11
