“This is not good!” Moses’ father-in-law exclaimed. 18 “You’re going to wear yourself out—and the people, too. This job is too heavy a burden for you to handle all by yourself. Exodus 18:17-18

Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. Eph 4:12

Jethro Principle: No One is in a group of more than ten.

Teach them God’s decrees, and give them his instructions. Show them how to conduct their lives. 21 But select from all the people some capable, honest men who fear God and hate bribes. Appoint them as leaders over groups of one thousand, one hundred, fifty, and ten. Exodus 18:20-21
1) More ministry means more ministers and more leaders of ministry.

But as the believers rapidly multiplied, there were rumblings of discontent. The Greek-speaking believers complained about the Hebrew-speaking believers, saying that their widows were being discriminated against in the daily distribution of food. Acts 6:1

2) Some are called to lead and focus hearing from God and teaching the Word of God.

So the Twelve called a meeting of all the believers. They said, “We apostles should spend our time teaching the word of God, not running a food program. Acts 6:2

3) Select spiritually mature believers from within to lead other ministries of the church.

And so, brothers, select seven men who are well respected and are full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will give them this responsibility.
Acts 6:3

Then we apostles can spend our time in prayer and teaching the word.” Acts 6:4

4) Delegate authority and pray for the leaders.

Everyone liked this idea, and they chose the following: Stephen (a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit), Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas of Antioch (an earlier convert to the Jewish faith). 6 These seven were presented to the apostles, who prayed for them as they laid their hands on them. Acts 6:5-6
5) Working together, the Body of Christ will do the work of Christ by equipping believers and growing the church.
