1 John 2:3-11
I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding. 10 For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return.

And we can be sure that we know him if we obey his commandments. 1 John 2:3
You know you know Jesus if you obey His commandments with the right attitude.
“If you love me, obey my commandments.” John 14:15
What is your motivation for obedience?
Fear of punishment … You will rebel.
To earn reward … You will want more
You love Jesus … You will be content.
If obeying God is not a priority, you don’t really love Him.
If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth. 1 John 2:4
Knowing Christ is not just factual, its experiential. Your catalyst is the Holy Spirit.
But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him. 1 John 2:5
Lack of obedience = Lack of trust
Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did. 1 John 2:6
Jesus is our role model for the obedient life.
Dear friends, I am not writing a new commandment for you; rather it is an old one you have had from the very beginning. This old commandment—to love one another—is the same message you heard before. 1 John 2:7
Jesus said, “So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” John 13:34-35
Love for each other shows the world we love Jesus.
Yet it is also new. Jesus lived the truth of this commandment, and you also are living it. For the darkness is disappearing, and the true light is already shining. 1 John 2:8
Focus on the love and you will move away from the dark.
9 If anyone claims, “I am living in the light,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is still living in darkness. 10 Anyone who loves a fellow believer is living in the light and does not cause others to stumble. 11 But anyone who hates a fellow believer is still living and walking in darkness. Such a person does not know the way to go, having been blinded by the darkness.
