My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. 1 John 2:1
Why is all sin such a big deal to John?
Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law, for all sin is contrary to the law of God. 1 John 3:4
1) Sin is serious.
2) Sin is disrespecting God’s authority.
3) Sin snubs the sacrifice of Jesus.
And I give myself as a holy sacrifice for them so they can be made holy by your truth. John 17:19
4) Sin points to a question of lordship.
5) Sin causes anxiety, hardens the heart and kills hope.
6) Sin is the enemy of the 2.0 Life.
Jesus is the hero of the 2.0 Life.
But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. 1b
Christianity is not a religion powered by human discipline and achievement. Because you can’t be perfect and God wants you to be righteous.
1) Jesus is with you and for you.
Jesus’ sacrifice is the expiation that takes care of our human nature problem.
Expiation: The act of making amends or reparation for guilt.
He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world. 1 John 2:2
2) Jesus pays our debt to God.
And anyone who believes in God’s Son has eternal life. Anyone who doesn’t obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remains under God’s angry judgment.” John 3:36
3) The Father sees us through Jesus.
While on earth we are to take the news to the world.
And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!” Rom 10:15
