4 After he has gathered his own flock, he walks ahead of them, and they follow him because they know his voice.5 They won’t follow a stranger; they will run from him because they don’t know his voice.” John 10:4-5
This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. 1 John 1:5
God is light
Warmth, Joy, Confidence, righteousness, clarity, peace, hope, satisfying, spiritually aware
Walking in the light you will avoid the dark.
16 So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. 17 The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. 18 But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses. Gal 5:16-18
The light is Truth.
6 So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth.
Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. Pro 1:7
If you are not walking in God’s light your natural nature is to be in the dark.
19 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Gal 5:19-21
Being reborn and walking in the light are choices. Choose the light or the dark.
7 But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.
We are forgiven
We have fellowship with God and believers
Our attitude about sin is the sign of where we are in our relationship with God.
8 If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth.9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts.
As Christians It’s wrong to live in sin believing we are safe in the darkness
You don’t have to be perfect to be living in the light.
