On what do you base your hope?
Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see. Heb 11:1
For if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised either. And if Christ has not been raised, then all our preaching is useless, and your faith is useless.1 Cor 15:13-14
The heart of Christianity is the resurrection. If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, every day is resurrection day.
Having carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I also have decided to write a careful account for you, most honorable Theophilus, 4 so you can be certain of the truth of everything you were taught. Luke 1:3-4
Resurrection is the Key to Real Faith and Hope
1) It clears up the confusion and is the catalyst for confidence and contentment.
They found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance.3 So they went in, but they didn’t find the body of the Lord Jesus. Luke 24:2-3
He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Remember what he told you back in Galilee, 7 that the Son of Manmust be betrayed into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and that he would rise again on the third day.” Luke 24:6-7
…women who told the apostles what had happened. 11 But the story sounded like nonsense to the men, so they didn’t believe it. Luke 24:10-11
2) It gives hope to the discouraged. It overpowers doubt.
But our leading priests and other religious leaders handed him over to be condemned to death, and they crucified him. 21 We had hoped he was the Messiah who had come to rescue Israel. Luke 24:20-21
31 Suddenly, their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And at that moment he disappeared!
32 They said to each other, “Didn’t our hearts burn within us as he talked with us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?” Luke 24:31-32
3)It empowers believers to be a witness.
Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. 46 And he said, “Yes, it was written long ago that the Messiah would suffer and die and rise from the dead on the third day. 47 It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of his name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: ‘There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent.’ 48 You are witnesses of all these things.
49 “And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.”
50 Then Jesus led them to Bethany, and lifting his hands to heaven, he blessed them.51 While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up to heaven. 52 So they worshiped him and then returned to Jerusalem filled with great joy. Luke 24:45-52
How Will The Resurrection Change Me?
1) I am forgiven. Jesus killed death.
Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. John 11:25
2) I get my strength from Christ living in me.
For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. Phil 4:13
3) My future is secure and I have a purpose.
And this is the way to have eternal life—to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth. Just as you sent me into the world, I am sending them into the world. John 17:3,18
