Romans 8:17-30

Hope from the world is wishful thinking.

 Guilt           Disappointment    Worthlessness   Hopelessness

Anxiety       Depression           Failure

Hope from the gift of Jesus is trust in a guaranteed future on earth and in heaven.

The people who walk in darkness will see a great light.
For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine. Isaiah 9:2

 1)     Eternal guarantee of Heaven.

16 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:16-17

 2)     Guaranteed to share in the treasures of Christ.

And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. 17a

 3)     Guaranteed to share in his pain.

But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering. 17b

 4)    Guaranteed to share in a life we can’t imagine.

Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later.  18

 5)     Guaranteed help in the present troubles.

We were given this hope when we were saved. (If we already have something, we don’t need to hopefor it. 25 But if we look forward to something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently.)  26 And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. 24-26

 6)     Guaranteed that what happens will be good according to God.

28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. 29 For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.

 7)    We are guaranteed great holy purpose.

30 And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And having called them, he gave them right standing with himself. And having given them right standing, he gave them his glory.

But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? 15 And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!” Romans 10:14-16
