Goal of Christ-follower from rebirth: Christ-likeness….
“Christianity has not so much been tried and found wanting, as it has been found difficult and left untried.” G. K. Chesterton
Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me. 24 If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. Luke 9:23-24
Battle Ready: It takes daily training to be spiritually fit to compete in spiritual warfare.
For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Eph 6:12
The Key to Spiritual Training is immersion.
I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. 2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Rom 12:1-2
Spiritual Discipline: An activity that can help me gain power to live life as Jesus taught and modeled it. (Exercises unto godliness)
Examples: Prayer, Solitude, Fasting, Study, Worship, Service, Fellowship, Confession, Celebration, Silence
Training to be Christ-like is Disciplined Immersion
1) Faith comes from hearing the Word.
So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ. Rom 10:17
Listen: Prepare your heart and mind to hear.
Engage: What does it say to you? Meditate ..
Apply: The key to wisdom is obedience.
Produce: Faith and the fruits and promises
2) Pray always. Live in an ongoing communication with the Father. (Talk some — Listen More)
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Rom 12:12
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Eph 6:18
Always be joyful. 17 Never stop praying. 18 Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. 1 The 5:16-18
3) Learn to manage and process pain though God’s eyes. (Ask, Lord what am I to learn in this)
- Avoid bad choices that cause pain.
- Empathize with others in pain.
- Learn and grow through pain.
And we know that God causes everything to work togetherfor the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Rom 8:28
