The Secret to Knowing God’s Will

You Don’t Have to be a Super Hero

Heb 11:23-27

23 It was by faith that Moses’ parents hid him for three months when he was born. They saw that God had given them an unusual child, and they were not afraid to disobey the king’s command.

24 It was by faith that Moses, when he grew up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. 25 He chose to share the oppression of God’s people instead of enjoying the fleeting pleasures of sin. 26 He thought it was better to suffer for the sake of Christ than to own the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking ahead to his great reward. 27 It was by faith that Moses left the land of Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger. He kept right on going because he kept his eyes on the one who is invisible.

#1 Christian prayer request is to know God’s will.

  • Confused about who you are?
  • What has God got planned for you?
  • What do you do now?
  • How much are you willing to sacrifice?

God used Moses because Moses chose God over the best the world had to offer.

Message for parents:  Lay the foundation for your child’s spiritual success. Your child is unique and your child is God’s.

23 It was by faith that Moses’ parents hid him for three months when he was born. They saw that God had given them an unusual child, and they were not afraid to disobey the king’s command.

 1)     Know you are a child of God and live accordingly.  You are part of the Holy Nation.  (Identify, represent)

24 It was by faith that Moses, when he grew up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter.

…you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation, [God’s] own purchased, special people, that you may set forth the wonderful deeds and display the virtues and perfections of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.  1 Pet 2:9 Amp

2)    Be responsible for your own spiritual growth.  You are commanded to work toward spiritual maturity.

25 He chose to share the oppression of God’s people instead of enjoying the fleeting pleasures of sin.

11 There is much more we would like to say about this, but it is difficult to explain, especially since you are spiritually dull and don’t seem to listen. 12 You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. 13 For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn’t know how to do what is right. 14 Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.  Heb 5:11-14

 3)    Live according to a holy value system.

26 He thought it was better to suffer for the sake of Christ than to own the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking ahead to his great reward.

Worldly value system: Prestige, Pleasure, Possessions

Holy value system:  God’s purpose, God’s people, God’s peace

4)     Do what it takes to be holy.  Don’t take your eyes off of God.

27 It was by faith that Moses left the land of Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger. He kept right on going because he kept his eyes on the one who is invisible.

Jesus never promised it would be easy, just simple.

37 Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”  Matt 22:37-40
