The reason most people don’t have good friends is because most people would rather take than give.
We are commanded to be good friends and forgive others for not….
A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. Matt 22:39
Ten Ways to Be a Good Friend
1) Be God’s love with skin. (Impress, represent)
No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us. 1 John 4:12
2) Be patient.
The Lord is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. Ps 145:8
Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. James 1:19
3) Be kind and real.
Kind words are like honey—sweet to the soul and healthy for the body. Prov 16:24
They pretend to be kind, but don’t believe them. Their hearts are full of many evils. Prov 26:25
4) Be humble.
Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Eph 4:2
5) Be courteous.
Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets. Matt 7:12
6) Be an encourager.
Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. Heb 10:24
7) Be trustworthy and loyal.
They visit me as if they were my friends, but all the while they gather gossip, and when they leave, they spread it everywhere. Ps 41:6
Many will say they are loyal friends, but who can find one who is truly reliable? Pro 20:6
8) Be a cheerleader. (Build confidence)
We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord. Rom 15:2
9) Be a helper toward success.
I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. Eph 4:1
10) Be a presenter of truth. (Model it and speak it)
As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend. Prov 27:17
An honest answer is like a kiss of friendship. Prov 24:26
