Forgiveness:  act of forgiving, state of being forgiven,  a willingness to forgive

Jesus is always ready to forgive.

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” And the soldiers gambled for his clothes by throwing dice.  Luke 23:34

39 One of the criminals hanging beside him scoffed, “So you’re the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself—and us, too, while you’re at it!”

40 But the other criminal protested, “Don’t you fear God even when you have been sentenced to die? 41 We deserve to die for our crimes, but this man hasn’t done anything wrong.” 42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.”

43 And Jesus replied, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.” Luke 23:39-43

Every day we choose Christ or self …. Humility or pride.

All people need to be forgiven by God and there is nothing we can do to earn it.

For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. 24 Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. 25 For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood.  Rom 3:23-25

How many wrongs does it take to not be good enough?

For the person who keeps all of the laws except one is as guilty as a person who has broken all of God’s laws. James 2:10

The forgiven criminal admitted he was wrong and asked for help.

Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. Eph 2:9

The forgiven have a perfect score in God’s eyes.

20 For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are.   21 But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago. 22 We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. Rom 3:20-22

Forgiven Christians should live in a constant state of forgiveness.

  • Grateful to be forgiven
  • Willing to forgive others.

You have to forgive to stay in a state of forgiveness.

If you don’t forgive you will be in a relational time out with God.

“If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. 15 But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.  Matt 6:14-15

 Are you forgiven?

  • Admit you need God
  • Believe Jesus is they way to God
  • Commit to making Jesus Lord of your life

Are you living in a state of forgiveness?
