When it gets bad enough people run to God, they run to church.
After 9/11 people ran to God until the pain eased and they thought they could handle it on their own.
I was always told church is a hospital, not a country club. …. It’s not…..
The goal of a hospital visit is to get fixed and gone with the least amount of sacrifice. (Pain)
Church is a biblical home, community, family….
How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony! Ps 133:1-2
Church is a lifestyle of healing and spiritual growth through sacrificial worship.
And so, dear brothers and sisters,I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Rom 12:1
We are at our best when connected to God and People.
Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” Matt 22:37-40
Two Types of Spiritual Disciplines:
- Individual – personal spiritual growth.
Ex: Meditation, Prayer, Fasting, Study, Solitude, Obedience…
- Corporate – personal and community growth.
Community of Faith Promotes Personal and Corporate Growth
42 All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper, and to prayer.
43 A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. 44 And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. 45 They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. 46 They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity—47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved. Acts 2:42-47
