Helpless Without God

All of us have strayed away like sheep. We have left God’s paths to follow our own.  Isa 53:6a NLT

Sheep cannot survive without a shepherd.

Jesus said “I am the Good (true) Shepherd.” John 10:11

The Good Shepherd comes to give a full life while the thief comes to destroy and to kill.  John 10:10

Living with the Lord as My Good Shepherd

 1)     I will have everything I need.

1 The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.

As Christ-followers we live in a Kingdom context. (Kingdom needs are different than world needs.)

(Seek first) he will give you all you need from day to day if you live for him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern.  Matt 6:33 NLT

 2)  He gives me nourishment and rest.

He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams.  3 He renews my strength. Ps 23:2-3a NLT

Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. No one who comes to me will ever be hungry again. Those who believe in me will never thirst.  John 6:35 NLT

Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. 17 For our present troubles are quite small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us an immeasurably great glory that will last forever! 18 So we don’t look at the troubles we can see right now; rather, we look forward to what we have not yet seen. For the troubles we see will soon be over, but the joys to come will last forever.  2 Cor 4:16-18 NLT

 3)  He guides me along the right path.

He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.   Ps 23:3 NLT

  •  Let God lead.  Decide up front to follow.
  • Do what we know is right. (Obey God’s Word)
  • Sins of commission and omission.
  • Gain wisdom from obedience. (fail or succeed)

 4)     He provides protection.

4 Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me.  Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.  God has said, “I will never fail you.  I will never forsake you.”  6 That is why we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, so I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” Heb 13:5-6 NLT

 5)  I will be rewarded for following the Good Shepherd.

5 You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies.  You honor me by anointing my head with oil.  My cup overflows with blessings.  6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.

…Yet the LORD laid on him the guilt and sins of us all.  Isa 53:6
