I learned as a counselor that if I could get people reconnected with God and people and active in their church, it would change everything for the better….Marriage, parenting, and personal spiritual maturity would get better.  There is a strength that comes from the Iron sharpening Iron community of faith.

Transformed by Community

Spiritual Maturity = Transformation

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Rom 12:2

You can not reach spiritual maturity alone.

Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. 13 This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ.

14 Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth.   Eph 4:12-14

Transformation through Community

 1)     Motivated through purpose.

The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ.  1 Cor 12:12

our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it. 19 How strange a body would be if it had only one part! 20 Yes, there are many parts, but only one body. 21 The eye can never say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you.”

22 In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary.  1 Cor 12:18-22

 2)     Strength and courage through numbers.

Two people can accomplish more than twice as much as one; they get a better return for their labor. 10 If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But people who are alone when they fall are in real trouble. Eccl 4:9-10NLT

Think of ways to encourage one another to outbursts of love and good deeds. Heb 10:24NLT

3)     Positioned to catch wisdom.

As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.  Pro 27:17

4)     Experience spiritual and human accountability through conviction and love.

Let the words of Christ, in all their richness, live in your hearts and make you wise. Use his words to teach and counsel each other. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. Col.3:16 NLT

 5)     Be the full expression of God’s love.  (Represent)

Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. 12 No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us.  1 John 4:11-12

They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity—47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.  Acts 2:46-47
