Hell is real……..
The safest road to hell is the gradual one—the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts. C. S. Lewis
Most people want to believe that all are going to heaven.
“You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose the easy way. 14 But the gateway to life is small, and the road is narrow, and only a few ever find it. Matt 7:13-14 NLT
For all have sinned; all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Rom 3:23 NLT
…there is a problem–your sins have cut you off from God. Because of your sin, he has turned away and will not listen anymore. Isa 59:2 NLT
Heaven is not our _______________ destination.
Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot tolerate wrong. Hab 1:13 NIV
Nothing evil will be allowed to enter–no one who practices shameful idolatry and dishonesty–but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. Rev 21:27 NLT
Only people with reservations go to Heaven.
When Christ comes back everyone will rise again and have eternal life. Some will be in Heaven and he rest will be _______________.
And he has given him authority to judge all mankind because he is the Son of Man. 28 Don’t be so surprised! Indeed, the time is coming when all the dead in their graves will hear the voice of God’s Son, 29 and they will rise again. Those who have done good will rise to eternal life, and those who have continued in evil will rise to judgment. John 5:27-29 NLT
What Jesus says About Hell:
- It is a literal place
- Includes raging burning fires
- The worms that don’t die
- Unsaved will be thrown into darkness
- Weeping and gnashing of teeth
- Constant terrible suffering
- Keep the desires you have now along with reasoning, memories, a longing for relief and comfort, no hope.
- Hell is eternal. Will never leave.
Luke 16:19-31, Matt: 10:28, 13:40-42, Mark 9:43-44, Matt. 8:12
We are already God’s children, and we can’t even imagine what we will be like when Christ returns. But we do know that when he comes we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is. 3 And all who believe this will keep themselves pure, just as Christ is pure. 1 John 3:2-3 NLT
1 Cor 2:9-16 – “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.”
But we know these things because God has revealed them to us by his Spirit, and his Spirit searches out everything and shows us even God’s deep secrets. 11 No one can know what anyone else is really thinking except that person alone, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. 12 And God has actually given us his Spirit (not the world’s spirit) so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us. 13 When we tell you this, we do not use words of human wisdom. We speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths. 14 But people who aren’t Christians can’t understand these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them because only those who have the Spirit can understand what the Spirit means. 15 We who have the Spirit understand these things, but others can’t understand us at all. 16 How could they? For,
“Who can know what the Lord is thinking? Who can give him counsel?”
But we can understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.
The More we get to know God and His Word the more we get homesick for Heaven.
“Don’t be troubled. You trust God, now trust in me. 2 There are many rooms in my Father’s home, and I am going to prepare a place for you. If this were not so, I would tell you plainly. 3 When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. 4 And you know where I am going and how to get there.” NLT
Phil 1:21,23,24 For to me, living is for Christ, and dying is even better. I’m torn between two desires: Sometimes I want to live, and sometimes I long to go and be with Christ. That would be far better for me, 24 but it is better for you that I live.NLT
The climax of history – A resurrected universe.
New Heaven and new earth.
Rev 21:1-4 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. 2 And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a beautiful bride prepared for her husband.
3 I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, the home of God is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. 4 He will remove all of their sorrows, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. For the old world and its evils are gone forever.”
Most people fear death. Jesus came to deliver us from that fear.
We are all going to die and spend eternity somewhere. Heaven or Hell….
1 Cor 15:55-58 O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” 56 For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. 57 How we thank God, who gives us victory over sin and death through Jesus Christ our Lord! 58 So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and steady, always enthusiastic about the Lord’s work, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless. NLT
Let’s live forward to HEAVEN……
John 14:6-7 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. 7 If you had known who I am, then you would have known who my Father is. From now on you know him and have seen him!” NLT
But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and everything in them will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be exposed to judgment.
11 Since everything around us is going to melt away, what holy, godly lives you should be living! 12 You should look forward to that day and hurry it along–the day when God will set the heavens on fire and the elements will melt away in the flames. 13 But we are looking forward to the new heavens and new earth he has promised, a world where everyone is right with God. 2 Peter 3:10-13
The earth is going to be renewed (regenerated)
For he must remain in heaven until the time for the final restoration of all things, as God promised long ago through his prophets. Acts 3:21
What does it mean to be restored? Garden of Eden
Earth won’t just be new, as opposed to old. New as in better…….
2 Cor 5:17 What this means is that those who become Christians become new persons. They are not the same anymore, for the old life is gone. A new life has begun! NLT
Most people think of heaven as the absence of the negatives.
Heaven is also the enhancement of the positives.
