e-note to LCC - This is the weekly email I send to friends and family of LCC
Dear LCC Family and Friends,
It is definitely the hazy, dazy, lazy days of summer: NOT. It seems like life goes by 100 mph no matter what the time of year. I hope you are enjoying your summer. I hope you spend some time with family and are making spending time with God something you are intentional about. We all suffer from being too busy and our relationships with God and others who are important to us get put on the back burner. As fast as time goes by it is easy to put our relationships aside and time slips away. What was that song in the 70’s, “Time keeps on slippin, slippin, slippin, into the future.” The future is here before you know it. Ask anyone over 35 years old.
My daughter is getting married in a couple of weeks. It seems like yesterday, (actually a year ago) that Jonas came to me and nervously asked for Brooke’s hand and I watched my little girl announce her engagement to the world. I remember thinking, “I still got a year before I have to give her away.” Well its here. I am very proud of my little (grown-up) girl and I have had a year to get to know my, in two weeks son-in-law. I am thankful that I will be turning her over to a man who loves God and loves her very much and will care for her. They will be living close, just a couple of towns over, and continue to go to church with us. I am thankful for God blessing Lisa and me with an incredible daughter.
We did something right as parents. Lisa was already committed to God before the kids were born. Before Brooke knew any different, I committed my life and our family to God and He has blessed us for sure. It is important that you live your faith out in front of your kids and with them. They watch to see if God is real to you or just something you do on the side. I know I did not always do right as a parent, but I know my kids saw Lisa and I live our lives with Christ in the center in every area. They saw how we were committed to God in the good times and the bad. I know God has blessed us with way more good because of our commitment to Him. I am truly thankful.
I decided just a couple of weeks ago that I would not participate in the ceremony except for giving her away. On Brooke’s day I will just be her dad. How cool is that? The most important job any man could have is dad. I am looking forward to being grandpa or whatever my title will be in a couple of years. And now, after 29 years of marriage, I have another son. I pray that I will be a good father-in-law.
I do have a prayer request for Brooke’s day. I pray I don’t embarrass the family by falling apart. I get misty eyes just thinking about it.
This Sunday I will get back to teaching from the Gospel of Luke. We will be looking at the ministry of John the Baptist. What an incredible man. Have you read lately how he preached? How is this for an opening line: “You brood of snakes! Who warned you to flee God’s coming wrath?” Luke 3:8 He didn’t even start his preaching off with a joke or a feel good story. Yet Luke teaches us that thousands of people were turning their lives over to God when John preached and later Jesus called him the greatest man who ever lived.
This Sunday we will take a look at what John was teaching and how it will help us live our lives better and more full between Sundays.
Love God Love People
Serving you in Christ
